Iguana

Cute, yummy and nutritious!
There are lots of iguanas in Cancun, especially on Playa Delfines and El Rey ruins. I was impressed by beauty of this animal. I took my camera to the beach one day and made some shots.

It’s so cool when it’s headbanging

I started wondering what Iguana meat tastes like. I checked that nutritionally, it is rich in minerals, such as calcium and magnesium, and contains more protein than chicken! I asked my local friends where I can eat Iguana in Cancun, but much to my dismay they told me it’s a sacred animal here and it’s illegal to consume them. Fortunately, when I was in the Mayan village I suggested that I’d love to try Iguana meat. I didn’t need to wait long before they took their slingshots and hunted a tasty iguana for my dinner!

Urban legend says that when you order chicken in Cancun, you actually get Iguana meat, and honestly the flavour is very similar. However don’t be afraid, be grateful and remember – Iguana meat is full of protein!
